THE HISTORY OF SWEENEY TODD'S
It's hearing true-life stories like these that make you realise that you never know what is around the corner
For 13 years Phil Samuels worked as a hairdressing supply rep in the local area and, as his job became less of a challenge, he decided he would go to night school and become a barber instead.
As he studied at Northbrook College he and his wife Tara decided that once qualified, they would head for the Australian Outback for a year's travel on a shoestring budget.
As they worked their way through Australia and New Zealand, from harbouring to chimney sweeping, they became friends with a Greek barber called George, who had his own, high-profile barbershop in the hear of Melbourne. George was a great inspiration to Phil and kept in contact.
When they eventually came home in the summer of 1999 the last thing they expected was to find out about an established barbershop in Salvington Road, Worthing, that was for sale due to the owner retiring.
After many successful years, Sweeney Todd's barbers is now located inside the entrance to Tesco Extra, Durrington on Fulbeck Way, Worthing.
